Ophthalmology

Assura Derwentside are to place a bid for the provision of a Community Optometry service across Derwentside. This does not take away the need for urgent care and casualty services, but it does address the real issue of patients travelling for long distances for treatments that could be provided locally by trained Optometrists.

The service is overseen by a Consultant Ophthalmologist who plays a major part in mentorship and training.

Local Optometry Practices and GP surgeries will therefore be able to see and treat a wider range of conditions that would ordinarily end up in an Acute hospital environment.
